Bierce is an immigrant dreamer and a patriarch of the Temple of the Elder Gods in Ulthar, the successor of Atal. He appears in Dirk Flinthart's "To Be in Ulthar on a Summer Afternoon".

Bierce's name might be a reference to Ambrose Bierce, a renowned American writer who had a strong influence on Lovecraft. In 1913, Ambrose Bierce mysteriously disappeared and was never seen again.
